theWord OT Commentaries 1-2 Samuel Kings Chronicles

theWord OT Commentaries 1-2 Samuel Kings Chronicles are all commentaries on one or more of the historical books of the Old Testament, 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Kings or 1-2 Chronicles. I do not have very many commentaries at this time on these books so I am including them all in a single zip compressed archive file. These Old Testament commentaries have some parallel sections in them, so you really need to go back and forth between them (both in Scripture and in these commentaries) to check out everything about a person, place, event or passage.

Note that the key phrases in brackets and parentheses () {} like (1kicmt) and (1chcmt) are key phrases used to help you make a module set, and get to just these commentaries in a module set so you can quickly flip back and forth between these commentaries on the same books you are studying. Note that the Expositor’s Bible commentary (Bennett, and Blaikie) is conservative and good, but a little old and dated. Usually these are good commentaries where to start your Bible study.

Philpot is well liked by a lot of people.

Rossier was a brethren author, so in general, just about anything these brethren authors write is conservative and good. There may be some few points of disagreement, but I would heartily endorse them. I think you will find their dispensational viewpoint very refreshing. I also think Ridout was a Brethren commentator. I think that he is good also.

Philpot was Anglican, so there may be some problems with some of his views. In general the Anglicans were very close to the Roman Catholics, but whereas Catholics usually misinterpret Scripture, the Anglican writers seemed to have a better grasp on salvation and they have written some good comments. As with any commentator of any denomination, or even between commentators in the same denomination, you need to have a lot of care about what is said, and pass everything through the filter of God’s Word, leaving out and rejecting that which does not check with Scripture and accepting that which is in harmony and agreement with God’s Holy Word.

I would recommend you also looking under some of the larger single volume commentaries like Barnes, Spurgeon, Adam, G. Campbell Morgan, the Church Pulpit Commentaries, Clarke, MacKintosh, the Biblical Illustrator, Jamieson Fausset and Brown, many other good 1 volume commentaries on the Old Testament or commentaries on the Bible.
